Denver police say officers shot knife-wielding man in Globeville after he moved toward them
Police said officers responding to reports of a man threatening people near East 51st Avenue shot him after he turned and moved toward them while holding a knife.
Denver police say officers shot a man in the 700 block of East 51st Avenue in Globeville on Sunday after he turned toward them while still holding a knife.
Police said officers were sent to the area after reports that a man was harassing and threatening people nearby. Chief Ron Thomas later said the man was holding a knife when officers arrived and ran when they ordered him to drop it, according to Denver Gazette reporting.
Investigators say the man then stopped, turned and began moving toward officers with the knife still in hand before one officer fired several shots, according to Denver Post reporting.
In an earlier department alert, Denver police said the man was taken to a hospital and no officers were injured.
Police had not publicly identified the man or disclosed his condition after he was hospitalized in the reports reviewed for this story.
