Arapahoe County advances Oxford Vista land deal, $4.5 million in open-space grants
Commissioners moved a 7.5-acre Oxford Vista purchase back to its original $3.5 million price and sent 12 open-space grant recommendations to the consent agenda.
Arapahoe County commissioners on Monday moved a 7.5-acre Oxford Vista land purchase back to its original $3.5 million price and advanced $4,510,919 in 2026 open-space grant recommendations.
County staff said the board had previously approved a $3.5 million allocation for the Oxford Vista property, planned for future affordable housing with the county Housing Authority. A later signature-authority approval reflected the county's own $3.4 million appraisal, while the land trust's appraisal came in at $3.59 million. Staff said the sides then returned to the original $3.5 million agreement, and commissioners moved the item toward the consent agenda with a hoped-for fall closing, according to the study session discussion.
On open space, staff said the county's sales-and-use tax generates about $40 million a year and that 12% is dedicated to the grant program. The county set aside $5.5 million for 2026 grants and received a little more than $4.5 million in requests. Staff recommended funding all 12 applications from nine agencies — nine standard grants, two small grants and one planning grant — and commissioners moved those recommendations to the consent agenda, the study session record shows.
Recommended projects included the Pine Creek Regional Trail Connection, Bellevue Park playground, Arapaho Station Pickleball Courts, Heritage Village Park Improvements, Inspiration Trail Connection, Sunset Park Improvements, a Greenwood Village park improvement project tied to pickleball courts, East Broncos Parkway Trail, Strasbourg Metro Park and Recreation District's outdoor museum amenities project, Crestline Park Reflection Garden and the Strasbourg strategic plan update.
Neither item received final approval at the study session. The record shows commissioners advancing both to the consent agenda, but not a completed land closing or final adoption of the grant awards.
