Broomfield Town Square developer withdraws extension request, leaving Sept. 12 deadline in place
A city staff memo says the Town Square project still faces a Sept. 12 site plan deadline, and council could consider revocation if key building permits are not issued by then.
Broomfield’s Town Square developer has withdrawn requests to extend the project’s site development plan deadline and related public financing participation, city staff said in a July 16 memo.
That leaves the project under its original approvals, including a Sept. 12, 2026 site development plan deadline. Staff said council could still consider revoking the plan if primary vertical building permits are not issued by then.
The memo says the developer withdrew the extension requests in June after talks with council failed. Existing agreements remain in force.
Staff also said a June 12 engineering resubmittal was accepted and is under review. But the memo flags a possible lake-design change in the construction package, reducing the lake from a maximum depth of 12 feet and average depth of 8 feet to 8 feet maximum and 6 feet average. Staff said that could affect water quality, circulation, temperature, algae growth and long-term maintenance.
The city had previously tied public participation to the project’s open-space and infrastructure commitments, including tax increment financing and land contributions. With no extension, the next key question is whether the developer can secure permits before the Sept. 12 deadline.
