Commerce City safety board to review shooting, e-bike risks and RTCC funding
The July 23 agenda does not identify the shooting or specify a federal grant request for the city’s Real-Time Crime Center.
Commerce City’s Citizens Public Safety Advisory Board is scheduled Thursday to review recent police activity and crime trends, discuss reducing e-bike risks and explore potential federal support for the city’s Real-Time Crime Center.
The meeting begins at 4 p.m. July 23 in Room 2413, with a remote option. The agenda describes a shooting only as part of a department update on “recent crime trends and significant investigations.” It does not identify the victim, date, location or case number, and the available records do not establish the shooting’s status.
A July 2 Commerce City Police post seeks information about the unsolved 2022 homicide of Emilio Fernandez, who police say was shot in his driveway on July 25, 2022. The available records do not show that case is the shooting referenced in the agenda.
RTCC funding remains exploratory
The department update says officials are exploring “potential federal support for the RTCC program.” The agenda does not identify a grant program, dollar amount, application or award. It says the new RTCC facility remains on schedule. The board has previously requested an RTCC technician’s briefing on the center’s experience since going live.
E-bike safety discussion
The board is scheduled to discuss “eBikes and Reducing Risk,” including education and enforcement, community awareness and injury-prevention strategies. The agenda does not list a specific ordinance change, enforcement campaign, budget or program for a vote.
The city’s electric-bike safety guidance tells residents to use street-legal vehicles on roadways and follow traffic laws and safety guidance. The city says the guidance responds to increased use of e-bikes, electric motorcycles and off-highway vehicles on streets and sidewalks. Its Safe Streets Initiative separately addresses fatal and serious-injury crashes through traffic-calming and photo enforcement programs.
Other department and community updates
The department report says two drug-detection K9 teams have been certified and four recruits have completed field-training-officer requirements. It does not name them.
The board is also scheduled to coordinate with partners and volunteers for National Night Out, discuss community engagement and consider a possible Telemundo Colorado interview with a board member. The agenda does not list a National Night Out date or location. It also includes public comment, future agenda topics and a request for the later RTCC briefing.
The agenda lists the Memorial Day Parade, National Police Week, Cops for Inclusion and a Badge & Honors Ceremony as past events. It says Cops for Inclusion served 53 families and that $1,170 raised through the Benevolent Badge Program was donated to The Arc of Adams County.
The July 23 meeting is scheduled to discuss these matters; the agenda does not show that the board has taken action on them.
