Commerce City used $300,000 grant for Sand Creek dead-tree removal

Commerce City has used about $300,000 in wildfire-mitigation grant funds to remove hazardous dead trees in the Sand Creek fire-mitigation project, a city report prepared for the Citizens Public Safety Advisory Board’s July 23 meeting says.
The city said the grant-funded work was underway in 2025, including dead-brush clearing and tree pruning. The grant came through the Colorado Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management’s Natural Disaster Mitigation Enterprise program, according to city materials, and the city says the work is intended to reduce wildfire fuel near developed areas.
