Littleton residents urged the City Council Tuesday to move faster on traffic-safety measures after describing recent collisions, including a fatal vehicle-bicycle crash. The city attorney said a speed-limit ordinance and e-bike regulations are expected in the next several weeks, but the city had not posted draft language or a council hearing date as of July 22.
Jose A. Regino told the council that someone had died in a vehicle-bicycle crash over the weekend and that another person had been hit on a Bellevue sidewalk the previous weekend. The meeting record does not include police details such as the locations, identities or causes of either incident, so those accounts remain attributed to Regino.
Regino called for continued work on lower speed limits and e-bike rules. He said the difference between driving 30 to 35 mph and 20 to 25 mph could determine whether a crash results in hospitalization or death. Pam Chadborne, another speaker, questioned whether a 20-mph limit would make a difference.
The city attorney’s timeline was the only stated next step. The July 21 council meeting record shows no vote or formal council action on either measure.
