Penley Fire remains 3 acres, 75% contained, sheriff says

The Penley Fire near Sedalia remained at 3 acres and 75% contained Tuesday evening as crews conducted mop-up and strengthened control lines, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. The 7 p.m. MDT July 28 update, amplified by Colorado Emergency Management, reported no growth or change in containment.
The fire previously prompted a mandatory evacuation within a 2-mile radius of West Douglas Fire Station 132 near Highway 67 and North Oak Valley Road, along with pre-evacuation notices nearby, CBS Colorado reported. KDVR reported that a shelter had been established at New Hope Church in Castle Rock and a livestock and pet evacuation location at Iron Horse Open Space.
No subsequent official all-clear, evacuation reduction or lifting, fire-specific road or trail closure change, or shelter-status update was verified in the sources reviewed by 7:17 p.m. MDT July 28 (1:17 a.m. UTC July 29). The sheriff’s update said crews in parts of the operation hiked about a half-hour uphill and used shovels rather than hoses. Mop-up involves extinguishing remaining hot spots and addressing hazards that could allow the fire to reignite.
