Broomfield council to consider 3 property-tax abatements Aug. 3
The agenda recommends a partial assessed-value reduction for Peak Professional Building and denials for two other properties; the packet does not quantify the tax-dollar effects.
Broomfield City Council is scheduled to act Aug. 3 as the city’s Board of Equalization on three property-tax abatement petitions. The agenda recommends a partial reduction for Peak Professional Building LLC and denials for two other properties.
The council agenda packet recommends lowering the assessed value of Peak’s property at 433 Summit Blvd., Unit 201, from $1,554,330 to $1,512,000. A detailed hearing-officer worksheet in the same packet lists a hearing-adjusted value of $1,512,390, an unresolved discrepancy that could affect the final reduction.
The other petitions are recommended for denial:
- KRW Investments LLC, for 205 Commerce St. The hearing officer recommended leaving the assessed value at $957,600 after reviewing KRW’s argument that the property should have been valued at its $850,000 purchase price and its challenges to the assessor’s rent and capitalization-rate assumptions.
- Maxwell Keirn, for 13873 Legend Way, Unit 104. The worksheet recommends no change to the $551,500 value. The hearing officer concluded Keirn had not shown the value was too high after considering comparable sales and the assessor’s view that second-floor units were worth less than main-level units.
The packet does not provide the district mill levies or calculations needed to determine the effect on Broomfield’s tax collections or those of other taxing districts. An assessed-value reduction is not the same as a tax refund or levy reduction.
The posted agenda lists the matter as Resolution No. 2026-97-BOE. As of July 30, the vote had not occurred, so the recommendations were not final council action.
The packet says outcome letters are expected to be mailed by Aug. 13. Taxpayers then have 30 days after mailing to appeal to the State Board of Assessment Appeals or district court, or to request binding arbitration. Broomfield’s abatement-process guidance describes the same post-BOE options.
