Douglas County reports 28 cyclosporiasis cases, 46 salmonella cases and one hantavirus death
A Sept. 10 Board of Health update also reported no confirmed local measles or Ebola cases and outlined expanded surveillance for the fall respiratory-illness season.
Douglas County health officials reported 28 cyclosporiasis cases, 46 salmonella cases and one hantavirus death this year in a Sept. 10 update to the Board of Health.
The Douglas County Health Department’s epidemiology update said the cyclosporiasis cases were primarily associated with contaminated lettuce and the salmonella cases primarily with contaminated jalapeños. The report did not say those foods were confirmed sources for every case.
The department also reported monitoring 26 people who had contact with measles cases in other jurisdictions, but no confirmed measles cases in Douglas County. Officials said they were coordinating with metro-area health departments on messaging and vaccination access. The department separately monitored 29 travelers arriving from Ebola-endemic areas and reported no Ebola cases or suspects.
The report gave no date or exposure details for the hantavirus death. It also did not provide illness or reporting dates for the cyclosporiasis and salmonella counts.
Flu and respiratory syncytial virus hospitalizations were similar to the same period in 2025, while cases remained low, officials said in the executive director’s report. Available COVID-19 data was slightly below 2025 levels. The department said it is expanding disease surveillance and using more hospitalization data ahead of the fall respiratory-illness season.
