Helitack crew to train at Eldorado Canyon Tuesday
A Broomfield-based crew will practice hovering and personnel deployment for wildfire and search-and-rescue missions between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., weather permitting.
The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control will conduct Flatiron Helitack training at Eldorado Canyon State Park on Tuesday, Sept. 15. Helicopter activity is expected between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., weather permitting.
The Broomfield-based crew is preparing for coordinated wildfire suppression and search-and-rescue missions along the Front Range and around the wildland-urban interface, DFPC said in its announcement.
Visitors may see the helicopter hover for short periods while personnel enter and exit multiple times. DFPC said the activity could take place for two to four hours at a time within the 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. window.
DFPC aviation crews support wildfire operations by transporting personnel and supplies and delivering water or suppressants. They may also assist with search-and-rescue missions when requested and available, according to the agency.
