Englewood appoints Aaron Martinez to vacant District 3 council seat

The council chose Martinez 5–1 after interviewing seven applicants; his swearing-in was scheduled for Oct. 5.

Englewood City Council appointed Aaron Martinez to fill its vacant District 3 seat Sept. 23, voting 5–1, with Member Russell opposed at a special meeting.

The clerk said the city would notify Martinez and scheduled his swearing-in for the Oct. 5 meeting. Mayor Othoniel Sierra said Martinez would become a council member if he accepted the appointment.

The council interviewed seven applicants the previous evening, Sept. 22. The interviews were recorded by the city.

Sierra said a special election could not take place before January 2027 because of the November election, and estimated it would cost the city about $40,000. Those were the mayor’s estimates for the alternative to an appointment.
