Wheat Ridge backs 112-unit affordable-housing goal for 2027–29
A separate regional agreement could help the city meet its 2024–26 target and maintain eligibility for the next cycle.

On Sept. 28, Wheat Ridge City Council approved a resolution backing a 112-unit affordable-housing commitment for 2027–29 and a separate agreement to share eligible unit counts toward the city’s current-cycle goal. (Resolution 46-2026; Resolution 45-2026)
Resolution 46-2026 backs filing the 112-unit commitment with the state by Nov. 1, 2026. The 112 units are a goal for the upcoming three-year cycle, not units the city has already built or secured. The state’s 2027–29 cycle guidance describes the updated method for calculating local commitments.
The separate agreement among Wheat Ridge, Jefferson County and neighboring cities covers the 2024–26 cycle. State regional collaboration guidance allows governments to share credit through a written agreement, subject to limits including a prohibition on counting units twice.
Wheat Ridge’s initial target for the 2024–26 cycle was 218 units. At a Sept. 21 council study session, staff said 43 eligible units had been verified locally, most from Ives Phase 2. Staff also described a regional surplus that could help cover the shortfall, but did not identify how many partner units would be credited to Wheat Ridge.
The Sept. 21 consensus to advance the proposals was preliminary direction. Council took formal action Sept. 28, and both motions passed without opposition in the recorded meeting.
