Castle Rock now expects Fire Station 156 to reach substantial completion in September 2027, about a year later than originally planned, the Town’s third-quarter project update says. The Town Council is scheduled to consider the contract amendments Oct. 6, according to its agenda.

The proposed amendments would raise consultant fee ceilings by a combined $332,602. A Sept. 15 request from RS&H seeks $122,880 for additional design coordination and construction-administration work; that request is included in a broader proposed RS&H amendment that would raise the design-services cap from $714,930 to $910,192. A separate proposed amendment for Dunakilly Management Group, the project’s owner’s representative, would raise its cap from $160,000 to $297,340. The amendments would increase maximum fees, not establish actual spending.

Town staff attributed the delay and added services chiefly to moving the station because of floodplain issues. The relocation extended design work and added earthwork and retaining-wall work, staff materials for the Dunakilly amendment say. RS&H’s request also includes 400 hours of construction administration over 50 weeks.

The Town’s latest project estimate is $21 million. Staff said the proposed consultant increases could be accommodated within the station’s construction budget without increasing the overall project budget.

The Fire and Rescue Department says the station is expected to improve first-unit coverage and reduce response times in Planning Zone 6, which includes Terrain, Liberty Village and Cobblestone Ranch, in its 2025 Standards of Cover.
