A draft would set the rate at 10 acres per 1,000 residents in both service areas, below consultant benchmarks for maintaining current park service levels.

Arapahoe County’s Planning Commission discussed a draft on Oct. 6 that would raise parkland dedication for residential development from 6 to 10 acres per 1,000 residents in both service areas. A consultant analysis estimated that maintaining existing park service levels would require 16 acres per 1,000 residents in the east and 18 in the west, the meeting minutes say. Commissioners took no formal action; staff sought feedback ahead of planned hearings.

The draft’s proposed parkland rates and other changes are outlined in the county’s proposal materials. The consultant benchmarks are estimates for maintaining existing service levels, not adopted requirements.

The rewrite would also change school-land dedication rates, from 0.0260 to 0.0747 acres per student in the west service area and from 0.0597 to 0.0648 in the east. It would apply to new residential subdivisions and resubdivisions that add dwelling units. Commercial and industrial development would remain exempt under the draft.

The proposal materials list a November Planning Commission hearing and a Dec. 8, 2026, Board of County Commissioners hearing as proposed dates. The county’s pending-amendments page says hearing dates will be posted later. The proposal has not been adopted.
