The Regional Transportation District’s Finance and Planning Committee unanimously recommended that the full board approve a proposed $16.38 million contract for 173 ticket vending machines. The board is scheduled to consider the proposal Oct. 27; the committee’s vote was a recommendation, not final contract approval, the committee minutes show.

The machines would serve rail and bus rapid transit platforms. RTD’s agenda-packet staff report allocates 54 machines to the East Colfax bus rapid transit project and 119 to replace 233 existing machines elsewhere in the system.

The proposed machines would accept cash, coins and credit cards, make change and issue paper tickets. The contract also covers installation and removal of existing equipment, parts, integration with RTD’s account-based ticketing system, nine years of software licenses and support, and an eight-year extended warranty.

The report targets installation of the East Colfax machines in the third quarter of 2027. It says related federal grants are scheduled to expire Dec. 31, 2027, if the machines are not in service by then.
