Denver City Council rejected Councilmember Lewis’s $530,000 proposal for a Day Works-like program in a 4-8 vote Nov. 2, the council’s meeting record shows. The vote defeated Lewis’s two-year budget amendment, which would have funded the proposal through Denver Economic Development and Opportunity (DEDO).

The amendment would have directed the money to DEDO for a competitive request for proposals. It proposed taking $38,354 from the graffiti program and $11,646 from Keep Denver Beautiful, and reducing services-and-supplies budgets by $240,000 each in Finance and Housing Stability. The amendment would have transferred the total to the Employer Recruitment, Training and Retention Program special revenue fund and added the same amount to DEDO’s program budget.

Lewis said she withdrew a separate proposal seeking $780,000 over three years; the meeting record shows no council vote on it. That version proposed the same $50,000 combined reduction to the graffiti program and Keep Denver Beautiful, plus $365,000 reductions to each of the Finance and Housing Stability budgets. The three-year amendment also proposed transferring the money to the special revenue fund and adding it to DEDO’s program budget.
