Colorado metro district oversight

Colorado local governments approve and monitor metropolitan districts, which finance public services and infrastructure through taxes and debt. A 2026 state audit found that oversight and reporting tools need improvement; the Department of Local Affairs agreed to strengthen its guidance, while additional policy changes are for the General Assembly to consider.
