Jeffco Public Schools publicly named Dr. Rob Stein as the sole finalist for interim superintendent on June 3, and the school board is scheduled to vote on the appointment June 18. The district said Stein would begin the role July 6, after Superintendent Tracy Dorland’s previously announced July 5 departure.

Jeffco’s June 3 board agenda said the board would publicly announce one or more finalists that day, authorize Board President Michelle Applegate to negotiate employment terms and hold a special meeting June 18 to vote on the selection.

The same agenda said the interim superintendent would serve throughout the 2026-27 school year. In its June 3 announcement, the district said Stein would take over effective July 6, positioning him to manage both the immediate summer transition and lead the district during the next school year while the board continues its broader superintendent search.

Jeffco’s superintendent search page says the board is pursuing a “transparent and inclusive process” to identify the district’s next leader, though a full timeline was still listed as “coming soon” as of June 4.

The public materials do not yet spell out Stein’s proposed salary, severance or other contract terms. The agenda authorizes negotiations, but those details may not become public until a proposed agreement is brought back for board approval.

Jeffco also already has another interim leadership appointment in place. The district’s leadership page says Dwight Jones is serving as interim deputy superintendent for the remainder of the 2025-26 school year.
