Commerce City council is set to consider a $463,040 budget amendment July 6 for an outdoor community ice rink at the Commerce City Civic Center parking lot, 7887 E. 60th Ave.

Ordinance 2782, on the consent agenda, would appropriate the money from unencumbered general-fund balance.

In a council communication, staff said council directed them Feb. 23 to proceed with a 2026-27 rink season. The memo says the city plans to operate a refrigerated rink from Nov. 20, 2026, through Jan. 18, 2027.

Staff estimated total costs at $463,040, including $403,040 for a contract with Blue Line Sports and Entertainment and $60,000 in city costs. The city share would cover marketing, decorations, irrigation enhancements, equipment, and possible new trees and tree lighting, according to the memo.

The contract amount includes $366,400 for vendor services and a 10% contingency of $36,640, staff said. The city said it issued a request for proposals covering installation, management, maintenance and removal, and selected Blue Line Sports and Entertainment.

Staff said sponsorships are being sought but revenue is not yet known, which is why the ordinance seeks the full appropriation up front.
