Denver council to consider $5.91 million Sanderson Gulch appropriation

Denver City Council is scheduled to consider a $5.91 million appropriation July 28 for design and construction improvements along Sanderson Gulch, including culvert replacements and pedestrian-access upgrades in southwest Denver.
Bill 26-1045 would appropriate $5,912,874 from the Wastewater Management Division’s Urban Drainage and Flood Control District Tracking Fund for the Sanderson Gulch Design and Construction Improvement Project. The Mayor-Council agenda says the work is co-funded by the Mile High Flood District but does not disclose each government’s share. The Legistar bill record shows the bill was approved for filing after consideration by the South Platte River Committee on July 22; no final council action is shown.
Denver’s Sanderson Gulch project page identifies the project area as the gulch between West Arkansas Avenue and West Florida Avenue. The city says existing culverts at both avenues are undersized for a 100-year flood event. Planned work includes replacing the culverts, improving the multiuse path, upgrading an existing pedestrian undercrossing and adding a second one. Denver says the new crossing would improve bicycle and pedestrian access between residents south of Florida Avenue and an elementary school north of the avenue.
The available records do not establish whether the appropriation covers precisely that Arkansas-to-Florida segment or a broader Sanderson Gulch package. The Mile High Flood District’s 2026 stream-management projects document lists several Sanderson Gulch projects in different reaches, including channel-restoration design and streambank repairs.
The city project page says the work is under design and lists construction timing as unknown or to be determined. The agenda and accessible bill record do not provide design milestones, a construction schedule or a property list for the appropriation.
