Denver airport reopens Level 6 West after bomb squad clears unattended bag
A police dog alerted to an unattended bag Friday evening, prompting a temporary closure of the west security checkpoint and departures area; the bag was cleared shortly before 7 p.m. MDT.
Denver International Airport reopened Level 6 West after a bomb squad investigated an unattended bag that prompted a temporary security closure Friday evening, airport officials said.
The airport initially said Level 6 West, including the West Security Checkpoint and departures area, was closed because of a possible security threat. Passengers were directed to Level 6 East for departure processing and security screening. The closure did not affect the airport’s concourses.
The Denver Post reported that a police dog alerted to the bag at about 5:32 p.m. MDT on July 31, prompting the Denver Police Department bomb squad’s response. Police cleared the bag shortly before 7 p.m., and the west checkpoint, departures area and United Airlines check-in counters began returning to normal, the newspaper reported.
The reports did not identify the bag’s contents or quantify delays, cancellations, diversions or passenger impacts.
