Denver council to consider nearly $13 million for Sanderson Gulch improvements
Two proposed measures would add $7.08 million to a Mile High Flood District agreement and appropriate $5.91 million for drainage, flood-control and related improvements between West Florida and West Arkansas avenues.
Denver City Council is scheduled to consider nearly $13 million in additional funding for Sanderson Gulch improvements on Aug. 10. Neither measure had been approved as of Aug. 7.
One measure would add $7,077,956 to Denver’s agreement with the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District, doing business as Mile High Flood District, bringing the agreement total to $22,166,098.74. A second would appropriate $5,912,874 from the Wastewater Management Division Urban Drainage and Flood Control District Tracking Fund, Fund 72701, for the Sanderson Gulch Design and Construction Improvement Project. The Aug. 10 council agenda says the project would also receive Mile High Flood District funding.
Both measures are listed for final consideration. The agreement amendment would not change its term. The agenda identifies Aug. 24 as the last regularly scheduled council meeting within the amendment’s 30-day review period.
The project is in Council District 7 along Sanderson Gulch between West Florida and West Arkansas avenues. Denver Parks and Recreation describes the work as channel stabilization, culvert replacement and capacity improvements, trail and bridge work, pedestrian undercrossings and floodplain improvements. The city says culverts in the Arkansas-to-Florida segment are undersized for a 100-year flood event.
The proposed agreement total follows earlier amendments for the corridor. A 2025 Legistar record listed the total at $15,088,142.74 after adding city and Mile High Flood District funds for drainage, flood-control, trail and bridge improvements. The available records do not provide a construction completion date for the Florida-to-Arkansas segment.
