Denver committee approves $68.2 million contract for new District 6 police station
The committee approved a construction contract and a design-contract amendment for the replacement station, with construction targeted to begin after an October notice to proceed and substantial completion expected in 2028.
Denver’s Transportation and Infrastructure Committee approved a $68,156,065 construction contract for a new District 6 police facility and garage at 1566 N. Washington St., advancing a replacement station serving Capitol Hill, Civic Center, downtown and Five Points.
The committee also approved a $684,685 amendment to the Roth Sheppard Architects contract. The amendment brings the design contract to $6,647,327.44, adds 212 days and extends it through April 1, 2028. Committee minutes identify Fransen-Pittman Construction Co. as the contractor.
The construction contract covers the new facility and garage, demolition of the adjacent Colorado Pharmacy Building and installation of protective canopies. The project is part of Denver’s Elevate Denver bond program and will replace the existing District 6 station, which city project materials describe as a 51-year-old facility with operational and habitability problems.
The city is targeting October 2026 for the notice to proceed. The contract runs for 532 days after that notice, with substantial completion targeted for 2028. District 6 personnel will temporarily relocate to the Police Administration Building during construction.
The approved construction and design contracts total $74,803,392.44. A city project update identifies the Colorado Pharmacy site as a potential future affordable-housing development site after demolition, but does not describe an approved housing project.
