Commerce City Council is scheduled to discuss a draft neighborhood grant program Nov. 9. The proposal would offer grants of $250 to $7,500 for neighborhood-serving projects and some community events. Staff is seeking Council consensus and direction; no adoption vote is proposed for that meeting.

The proposed program would allow applications from homeowners associations, neighborhood groups and nonprofits that assist a neighborhood. Potential projects include signs, park or playground equipment, public art, community gardens and events. Applicants would generally need to show neighborhood support, and the draft includes a staff-review step before final applications.

A cash or in-kind match would be optional, with documented contributions exceeding the grant request earning bonus points. The draft rules also set conditions for projects on private property, including a public benefit, continued public access and a maintenance plan.

The proposal follows a May 18 Council motion directing staff to research a possible program for small neighborhood projects. If Council decides to proceed, a resolution would come to a future Council agenda, the city’s communication says.

Staff lists seeking funding through the 2027 city budget as a next step. The presentation does not specify a total allocation or funding source.
