Denver approves $12.75 million for Globeville flood-control work
The funding includes $8.55 million from the Mile High Flood District and $4.2 million from Denver; the amendment would raise the agreement’s maximum to $42.47 million.

Denver City Council approved $12.75 million in additional funding for the Globeville Levee project on Sept. 21, approving Council Bill 26-1210 by 11 votes, with no opposition and one member absent. The council’s action splits the increase between $8.55 million from the Mile High Flood District and $4.2 million from Denver.
The agreement covers design and construction of drainage and flood-control improvements along the South Platte River between 31st Street and East 50th Avenue. A city presentation to the South Platte River Committee describes the broader Globeville Levee and 48th Avenue Greenway effort as intended to reduce flood risk, improve stormwater conveyance and add open space, connections and community amenities. Those are project goals, not outcomes established by the funding approval.
The amendment’s cost estimate assigns an estimated $2.2 million of the increase to final design and $10.55 million to construction; the $1 million contingency is unchanged. The agreement also covers required rights-of-way or easements and contingencies agreed to by the parties.
The amendment would raise the agreement’s maximum from $29,718,816.59 to $42,468,816.59. That ceiling is not an established all-in cost for the broader project or an amount already spent.
