Denver Human Services is proposing to lower the maximum for its HopSkipDrive transportation contract from $1.5 million to $710,000 and extend the agreement two years, through Dec. 31, 2028. The contract covers rides for children and youth involved with or receiving services from the agency.
The amendment request describes door-to-door trips to school and school-related activities, supervised parenting time, placement transitions, extracurricular activities, therapy and medical appointments. Denver Human Services says rides to a student’s school of origin under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act are a priority and that the city is reimbursed 90% for those rides.
The agency cites current budget limits and lower-than-anticipated spending under the contract as reasons for reducing the maximum. The $1.5 million figure is the existing contract ceiling, not a reported spending total.
The amendment is slated for Health and Safety Committee consideration on Oct. 14.
