Denver City Council approved a $93,050,253.84 contract with Flatiron Dragados Constructors, Inc. on Oct. 19 to extend Taxiway L at Denver International Airport. The contract runs for 669 consecutive calendar days. The Council minutes record 11 ayes, no nays and one member absent.
The project will connect Taxiway L to Taxiway M and add an apron for overnight parking for four narrowbody aircraft. Other work includes electrical upgrades, taxiway lighting, signs, pavement markings, high-mast lighting and security cameras. Plans also call for relocating part of the airport fence, Vandriver Street and maintenance roads; protecting or relocating utilities; building a retaining wall; and constructing two stormwater ponds, the Department of Aviation’s contract request says.
The department identifies the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program and the airport’s Capital Improvement Plan as funding sources, but the request does not specify how the cost will be divided between them. The department says the project is intended to improve safety and operating efficiency, add aircraft parking, modernize aging infrastructure and support future airport growth. Construction is to be phased to limit effects on airfield operations and meet federal requirements.
