Denver seeks $93 million contract for airport taxiway, four-aircraft apron
The proposed project would extend Taxiway L, connect it to Taxiway M and add overnight parking for four narrowbody aircraft.
Denver’s Department of Aviation has requested approval of a $93.05 million contract with Flatiron Dragados Constructors to extend Taxiway L and build overnight parking for four aircraft at Denver International Airport. The proposed contract would run 669 calendar days after a notice to proceed, the department’s contract request says.
The project would add sections of Taxiway L and a connector to Taxiway M, along with a remain-overnight apron for four narrowbody aircraft. Other work includes electrical upgrades, taxiway lighting, signs, pavement markings, high-mast lighting and security cameras. Plans also call for relocating a section of airport fence, Vandriver Street and maintenance roads; protecting or relocating utilities; building a retaining wall; and constructing two stormwater ponds.
The department identifies the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program and the airport’s Capital Improvement Plan as funding sources, but does not specify how the cost would be divided between them. It says the project is intended to improve safety and operating efficiency, add aircraft parking, modernize aging infrastructure and support future airport growth.
The department says construction will be phased to limit effects on airfield operations and meet Federal Aviation Administration requirements. The request does not detail the phases or estimate operational disruptions.
