A Commerce City staff presentation scheduled for Oct. 12 estimates that widening Chambers Road from 105th to 116th avenues will cost $31.4 million, up from $23.2 million. It attributes the increase to expanded scope and inflation. The item is informational and does not ask City Council to take action, the council communication says.
The planned work includes two through lanes in each direction, a raised median and turn lanes, curb and gutter, a detached sidewalk on the west side, trail extensions on the east side, and drainage, landscaping and lighting upgrades. The final phase includes a wider Second Creek bridge designed for a 100-year flood event and a pedestrian underpass connecting to the Second Creek Trail.
The planned presentation schedules right-of-way acquisition from September 2026 through September 2027. Construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2028, with the first phase running from 112th to 116th avenues through the fourth quarter of 2029. The remaining phases are scheduled from 2030 through the third quarter of 2032. The presentation labels Phase 1 funded and says Phase 2 is funded in the 2027 Capital Improvement Program. It cautions that the timing depends on additional funding.
