Denver’s South Platte River Committee approved a proposed $217,216 increase for planning in the Valverde Basin on Oct. 7, raising the project’s combined funding cap from $300,000 to $517,216 if the amendment is adopted.
Under the proposed second amendment, Denver’s maximum contribution would rise to $417,216. The Mile High Flood District’s contribution would remain capped at $100,000. These are funding limits, not amounts reported as paid or spent.
The broader Valverde Outfall System Plan will assess the existing stormwater system and street-level urban-flood risk, then identify potential solutions and future projects, according to Denver’s project description. The amendment says the added money would cover services beyond the original agreement but does not specify those services. The plan is for identifying potential projects, not funding construction.
The committee approved Council Bill 26-1455 by consent, as recorded in its Oct. 7 minutes. The measure has not yet received full City Council approval; the Oct. 13 Mayor-Council record lists it as “Approved for Filing.”
