Commerce City City Council is scheduled to consider Shamrock Foods’ plan for 14 above-ground tanks holding about 420,000 gallons of food oil at 5199 Ivy Street during a Nov. 16 public hearing. If approved, the requests would change the site’s zoning and authorize the proposed storage.
The rezoning request would change the property from I-2, medium-intensity industrial, to I-3, heavy-intensity industrial. The city’s conditional-use permit report places the tanks on the property’s western side, between a railroad spur and an industrial building, behind the building and at least 500 feet from rights-of-way.
City staff recommends approval of both requests, with conditions for the permit. The Planning Commission voted 5-0 to recommend the rezoning, the city’s presentation says.
The report says the Development Review Team, including the South Adams County Fire Department, had no objections. It also says stormwater management would follow a previously approved development plan and anticipates no traffic impacts on East 52nd Avenue or Ivy Street because the permit does not include additional development.
