Denver’s Department of Housing Stability is asking City Council to add $852,000 to Volunteers of America of Colorado’s contract for a program that helps families experiencing homelessness move into permanent housing. The proposed amendment would extend the contract by one year, through Dec. 31, 2028, using money from the Homelessness Resolution Fund, the department’s request says.

The Shelter into Rapid Rehousing program provides housing search and placement, eligible move-in assistance for costs such as rent, deposits and utilities, and case management intended to help households maintain permanent housing. It also connects participants with health care, benefits, employment, childcare and other services. The program serves households experiencing literal homelessness citywide, including people referred through the city’s OneHome system, shelters funded by the department and outreach programs.

The request does not estimate how many households the additional funding would serve.
